    An International Operating Company in Lagos, Nigeria is looking to recruit a Technical Assistant for its HSSE Group. The role of this job is to provide support to the HSE Division to facilitate smooth processing of technical administrative matters covering QHSE filing, data entry, HSE records management, KMS databases and related issues. Undertake statistical calculations and reporting, including tracking and trending of QHSE performance.
    Establish and maintain a manual / computerized filing and documentation management and retention system for the HSE Division to ensure that all technical documentation and records are maintained in an orderly manner to facilitate retrieval.
    Develop and maintain an up-to-date database on Power2, Near Misses, HSE alerts, accidents, contractors, emergency information, laws and regulations, changes, procedures and policies and all QHSE issues to support and complement HSE Division activities.
    Generate statistical information, including tracking and trending from recorded QHSE data to assist management in assessing progress and performance, identifying loopholes and areas of concern to facilitate decision-making.
    Take down minutes of technical QHSE meetings and circulates among meeting attendees and other designated individuals. Keeps track of QHSE issues relating to projects undertaken by the Company to participate in the preparation of up-to-date reports.
    Follow up with relevant divisions, contractors and consultants on various corrective actions, measures and changes in QHSE plans, policies and procedures, as directed to ensure implementation and to facilitate the division’s workflow.
    Provide administrative support to the HSE division’s budgeting process. Maintain a track of division expenditures and notify Vice President on deviations from set budget lines. Maintain a record of justifications for deviation for future retrieval for reporting purposes.
    Maintain confidentiality of assigned work, ensure that confidential information is not revealed other than to those specified, to safeguard the Company’s interests.
    Perform other similar or related duties as and when assigned by direct supervisor.
    Document control duties for QHSEMS, QHSE audit and incident files.
    Focal point for data entry related to Hazop, MOC, incidents, audits
    Coordinate HSE input to the Company.

    Degree in Engineering or equivalent Technical Discipline.
    At least 3 years experience in providing technical support to engineering projects, preferably within an HSE Division / Department – Experience in the Oil and Gas Industry will be an added advantage.
    Experience in word processing, spreadsheet and database software – Courses in Health, Safety and Environment will be an added advantage

    Provide leadership and direction to minimize the risks in the Company’s operations.
    Assist the EHSS Manager in monitoring the operation of Production and Drilling Management System and advise EHSS Management of any deviations from agreed guidelines.
    Ensure the application of the system by all levels of management and supervision.
    Assume responsibility for promoting positive EHSS culture.
    Install a genuine belief that all accidents are preventable.
    Assure effectiveness through training, workforce culture, auditing, drills and reporting.
    Analysis of statistics and provide management presentations.
    Provide and guide in use of procedures for reporting and analysing hazards and incidents in Nigeria.
    Facilitate knowledge sharing through identifying EHSS learning opportunities and the timely sharing of the information.
    In consultation with EHSS Manager, co-ordinate the career development of EHSS professionals.

    University degree in Engineering or any of the social sciences, disciplines in EHSS specialty, (e.g. loss prevention engineering, risk management, and safety management).
    Minimum of 8 years cognate experience in health, safety, security and environmental risk management in a systems or product engineering design, manufacturing and/or construction environment.

    Considerable experience in an EHSS management/supervisory position in international work environments.
    Working knowledge of local and international laws, regulations, codes, standards, and best industry practices for EHSS (e.g. ISO, OGP, IADC, UKOOA, API, ASME, NFPA, ASSE, ASIS, etc.).

    For this position preference will be given to Nigerian nationals. In case expatriate candidates are selected, it is a prerequisite he/she is tasked to mentor and train a Nigerian understudy
