The International Rescue Committee (IRC), one of the world's largest humanitarian agencies, provides relief, rehabilitation and post-conflict reconstruction support to victims of natural disaster, oppression and violent conflict in 42 countries. The IRC is committed to bold leadership, innovation and creative partnerships. Active in public health, education, livelihoods, women's empowerment, youth development, and protection and promotion of rights, IRC assists people from harm to home.
IRC began work in Nigeria in 2012 in the north of Adamawa State in response to the flood emergency. It is one of the few international humanitarian actors present in Nigeria's north eastern States. Since October 2014, IRC, in partnership with Creative Associates, has been leading implementation of the three-year Nigeria Education Crisis Response project funded

by USAID. IRC is implementing this project in Adamawa State, aiming at addressing the education needs of IDP children and youth through non-formal learning centres, Youth Learning Centres, and Adolescent Girls Centres, and promoting social and emotional wellbeing for learning, peace building and conflict mitigation skills for social cohesion. IRC is also seeking to expand its work in education to expand access to safe quality basic education for out-of-school children in host communities.

In the sector of child protection, the IRC recently launched activities in Adamawa State. The child protection response has a main focus on child friendly spaces, case management for unaccompanied children and the creation of community based child protection mechanisms. Child Protection activities are currently funded by ECHO and Stichting Vluchteling. IRC is planning to expand the activities to cover the needs of vulnerable children and youth as well as caregivers.
